The electrical system on the Dahon K-Feather is a 24-volt architecture, which is a lower voltage than the typical 36V or 48V systems found on most US ebikes. This choice helps keep the physical size and weight of the components down. The 5 Ah battery uses Samsung cells and has an advertised range of up to 25 miles and is integrated directly into the main frame tube. Note that the battery is not removable; the ebike must be brought to a power source for charging.
There is no LCD display or variable pedal assist levels. The interface consists of a single power button. Once activated, the torque sensor detects pedal pressure and automatically adjusts the motor’s power to match your effort.

The torque sensor delivers a smooth, natural feel by matching motor support to the rider’s effort, kicking in after roughly a quarter turn of the crank. On flat terrain, we found the most comfortable pedal cadence and cruising speed to be around 12 and 13 mph. Pedaling is easy even without assist, but the motor does a great job of offsetting the trade-offs of a single-speed setup, like needing more effort at low speeds and having less flexibility on hills. The motor cuts out at the advertised 16 mph and requires a quick pedal cadence to keep moving.
Hill Climbing
The 250W motor and single-speed gear ratio are optimized for flat or rolling terrain. During testing, the bike successfully climbed our steep test hill, but it required significant rider effort. The motor provides a helpful boost for tackling small hills, but you’ll still feel the burn in your legs when facing steeper climbs.
