KuKirin G4 Review: A Rugged, Affordable, and Powerful Electric Scooter

The KuKirin G4 electric scooter is one of the most affordable, yet powerful, tough looking electric scooters on the market today. If you need power to get over hills, looking to get somewhere fast, or prioritize a comfortable ride it is worth your time to see what this scooter has to offer. Currently priced at $849.99 ($899.00 w/ seat option), you get 2000 watts of single motor power with a 60V 20Ah battery that can get you where you need to go in a hurry with power to spare. Read on for my full review of the KuKirin G4 to find out if it is the right scooter for you.

KuKirin G4 Appearance

Out of the box the KuKirin G4 is very easy to assemble. Tools are included to attach the handlebar, the rear fender, and the kick stand. The kick stand seems sturdy enough, however, the scooter does lean quite heavily on it so make sure you are on level ground. A manual is also included, as well as the keys for turning on the scooter. The scooter comes with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty.

The mostly black matte finish with orange accents gives the scooter a sleek look but blends well with the ruggedness of the industrial design of the stem and deck. Speaking of the deck, it is very tough, thick, and boxy measuring 20.1 inches long and 8.7 inches wide. The foot rest or rear pedal as KuKirin calls it is also very sturdy. The foot rest combined with the deck size provides plenty of room for large feet. Orange calipers and additional orange designs are found alongside the frame of the scooter give it more flair than average scooters. The rear lights underneath the foot rest flash with a pull of the brake levers and also includes flashing indicators for turn signals. The red “light” on the furthest rear fender is simply a reflector.

The left side of the handlebar contains turn signal controls and a horn function. The horn loudness is average, exactly what I would expect stock on an electric scooter. On the right side the throttle is a combination twist / thumb control which is a little different than what I’m used to. I didn’t have any trouble with it without gloves on, but I did find with larger gloves I found myself fumbling with it as my hand would extend a bit too much over the twist part of the throttle. This isn’t a deal breaker in my eyes, but something worth putting out there if it is something that would bother you.

Performance of the KuKirin G4

Let’s get the disclaimer out of the way: your experience on any electric scooter is heavily dependent on your build so please keep in mind my weight (~165 lbs) and height (~5’10”) as you read about my personal experience. The KuKirin G4 has a single 2000 watt motor with an advertised max speed of 43 mph. I find myself getting a bit uncomfortable when I go above 30 mph, and I had no trouble hitting this speed and more on mostly flat pavement. The single 2000 watt motor had no trouble with any hills around where I live. Even on steeper hills the KuKirin G4 had no trouble tackling them even with the single motor. As I’ve read from a few other reviews, the acceleration feels smooth and well tuned.

The KuKirin G4’s 60V 20AH battery has an advertised range of 43 miles. I did some rigorous testing up and down many hills and lots of short trips, and I ran the battery down to about 30% charge in about 30 miles. If I were to push it just a bit less harsh, I could get pretty close to that expected range with an empty battery. In the real world to ensure the longest life of your battery I definitely do not recommend running it empty if possible. Keep in mind as I’ve said before, if your build is larger than mine, you are constantly starting/stopping in traffic. or climbing large hills, your range will be impacted. The charging time is 10-12 hours, so if you drain the battery empty you will be waiting quite awhile for it to be replenished.

Riding the KuKirin G4

The first thing you’ll notice is the 81.5 lb weight – the KuKirin G4 is a heavy scooter. You are able to fold the stem down to make it easier to transport, but this scooter is designed for performance, not necessarily for every day portability. The 11″ tubeless tires with front and rear suspension provide a very smooth ride across pavement or off road trails. With the larger tires it is tempting to take it on the snow, but remember extreme cold is hard on lithium ion batteries. The dual mechanical disc brake levers provide decent enough stopping power, although hydraulic disc brakes would make it much safer at higher speeds. If you decide to ride this scooter upwards of 30 mph, keep this in mind.

I opted to review the KuKirin G4 with the optional seat attachment. This was my first time using a seat with an electric scooter, and I was blown away with how comfortable it was. The location of the seat is perfect. If you feel like switching between sitting and standing, there is plenty of room to do both. The seat is very soft and provides more cushion than I expected. The height seemed perfect for me at 5’10”. It also seemed plenty stable with my 165 lb. weight. When I first received the KuKirin G4, the seat was a $100 option and it has now since been reduced to $50. I highly recommend the option especially at that price if you are taking longer commutes.

As I’ve said above, the single 2000 watt motor provides ample power for reaching advertised speeds. There is also 3 different modes to select from (12 mph, 24 mph, 43 mph) which allows more customization in how fast you’d like to reach your destination. The extra wide tires and suspension keep the ride as smooth as possible. I did do some additional reading in the community and it seems like there was an earlier version of the scooter that was a bit more unstable, but KUGOO must have fixed that issue because I did not experience any wobble or instability at high speeds. The combined thumb/twist throttle control takes a bit getting used to, but there is a cruise control option as well that will lock you in at a constant speed to reduce fatigue on long trips. The headlights, brake lights, and turn lights have decent brightness – you will have no problem being seen when the sun starts to set. There is a visual indicator on the display and on the headlight to indicate when your turn signal is flashing, although both are difficult to see during daylight.

The cockpit display is large and bright. I didn’t have any issues reading my speed nor my mileage. It is a touch screen, although the touch screen options are just for toggling headlights, km/mph, and changing the max speed modes (all of which can be changed with the power button combination [except the km/mph setting] like most other scooters). The battery percentage is shown by the number of illuminated bars. There does appear to be icons for cruise control and bluetooth, although the manual doesn’t give any instructions for how to use or customize these options. Perhaps this was a feature that was never fully realized yet without some dedicated application support.

Final Thoughts on the KuKirin G4

The KuKirin G4 electric scooter is an affordable and powerful model from KUGOO currently priced at $849.99, offering a 2000W motor and a 60V 20Ah battery with an advertised range of up to 43 miles. It’s easy to assemble and features a sleek, rugged design with a spacious deck, large display, horn and turn signals. The scooter performs well on flat terrain and hills, reaching speeds of up to 43 mph, though the heavy weight of 81.5 lbs may limit portability. Its smooth ride is enhanced with extra large tires and dual suspension, and the optional seat adds comfort for longer rides. Overall, the KuKirin G4 is a solid choice for those seeking performance, comfort, and value.
