Key Updates

Built-In Security Tech

The Level 3โ€™s security setup is built around the Aventon Control Unit (ACU), which brings 4G and Bluetooth connectivity into the mix. Think over-the-air updates and real-time GPS tracking that logs your rides and stats. Geofencing alerts let you set a virtual boundary, pinging you if the bike moves outside it, while a smart rear wheel lock and battery lock, both password-protected, keep it physically secure. You can arm an alarm to scare off trouble, or even trigger a remote shutdown for extra theft protection. Abnormal event logging and power status reporting round it out, giving you a clear picture of whatโ€™s happening with your bike. Itโ€™s a layered approach that offers real peace of mind.

Ride Tuning That Adapts to You

The Aventon Ride app is central to customizing the Level 3โ€™s performance. It now lets you tweak pedal assist levels in Eco, Sport, and Turbo modes, adjusting torque, assistance, and pedal response to match your riding style. This feature, known as Ride Tune, helps you dial in speed for a quick commute or conserve battery for longer trips, making it easy to personalize each ride.

Comfort-First Touches

An adjustable stem and a suspension seat post with preload adjustment give you the freedom to tweak your riding position. Whether you want an upright stance for leisurely cruising or a lower position for tackling headwinds, the Level 3 can adapt without much fuss. Paired with a front suspension fork, itโ€™s equipped to smooth out bumpy roads or even mild off-road paths.

Magura Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Braking is handled by Magura 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes, levers, and 180 mm rotors. This marks the first time we’ve seen these name brand brakes on a sub-$2,000 electric bike and they are a nice improvement. The lever design makes them easy to pull and modulate pressure and the brakes have no problem bringing you to a quick, controlled stop.

Lights, Turn Signals, And Improved Cable Routing

For visibility, you get integrated Aventon’s signature lights that draw power from the main battery, plus handlebar-controlled turn signals on the rear. The signals automatically shut off after about 15โ€“20 seconds, which is a nice little detail. It all makes commuting a bit more stress-free, especially at night or in congested areas. The cables are now routed through the headset

Frame and Design

The Level 3 is available in both step-over and step-through versions, each offered in two frame sizes so you can find the right fit. Aventon has tweaked the geometry compared to the Level 2, creating a more relaxed and slightly stretched-out riding position that doesnโ€™t feel cramped on extended commutes. While the bike still aims for city riding, the suspension fork and seat post give a bit more versatility if you need to stray onto rougher roads.

Specs and Components

If youโ€™re curious about all the nuts and boltsโ€”like battery capacity, motor details, or drivetrain specificsโ€”see the breakdown in the table below.

Accessories

The Level 3 includes comfort features and commuter ready accessories like fenders and a 59 lb capable rear rack. Below are commuter accessories we think would pair nicely with Level 3:

The Big Daddy 2 Bike Rack Bag by BiKASE comes with a large main compartment with waterproof liner and drop down panniers on each side, adding extra storage when needed!

ElastoKase Quick Release Phone Mount ($34.99)

Aventon’s app adds a lot to the Level 3’s riding experience, making a phone mount almost a must. Our quick-release phone mount fits phones as small as an iPhone 13 Mini and up to a Galaxy Ultra, even with case attachments like wallets.

Adjustable Bottle Cage. Can fit bottles 2 1/4″ to 4 3/4″, we’ve used it with soda cans, Nalgene water bottles, and even wine bottles for date night! The ratchet design secures anything you put in it for a worry free ride.

Aventon Level 3 Riding Performance

When it comes to real-world testing, the Level 3 shows it has some get-up-and-go on flat terrain. Throttle alone hits around 20 mph, which is nice if you need a break from pedaling. The pedal assist modesโ€”Eco, Sport, and Turboโ€”let you top out closer to 28 mph if youโ€™re willing to put in a bit of effort. The app’s “Ride Tuning” let us hone in on three distinct assist levels to balance speed and power vs range and exersize. On hills, the 500W motor doesnโ€™t exactly fly, but paired with the torque sensor, it feels smooth and intuitive.

Aventon Level 3 Cons
No brake-activated rear lights: They donโ€™t brighten when braking, which has been offered on some of their other models.
No motor cutoff with brakes: A trend we are seeing with torque sensing ebikes. Requires extra care since the motor doesnโ€™t stop automatically when braking
Outdated USB-A port: It’s great to have charging capability for devices, but it feels behind the times compared to modern USB-C standards.
Awkward charging setup: The batteryโ€™s under-the-down-tube placement can make charging a bit tricky.
