Two Guys, 1,000 Miles, and a Lectric XPedition: A Review
Overall Impressions:
We are largely impressed with the XPedition, for its affordability, powerful motor, impressive battery range, and adjustable design. However, we also identify a few areas for improvement, mainly concerning noise, suspension, and the kickstand.
XPedition Pros:
- Price: The XPedition stands out for its competitive price point, especially considering its capabilities. Just $1,399 for the single battery version (14Ah) and $1,699 for dual batteries (26Ah). Battery capacity is simply unheard of at this price.
- Motor: The 1310-watt motor provides ample power for tackling hills and carrying cargo.
- Battery Range: The 28Ah batteries offer a generous range, allowing for extended rides without worrying about running out of juice. Plus, take it on multiple rides before topping off the battery. It’s less to worry about.
- Adjustability: The telescoping seat post and adjustable handlebars ensure a comfortable riding experience for riders of different heights.
- Brakes: The hydraulic disc brakes provide reliable stopping power in all conditions.
- Top Speed: The XPedition’s 20 mph top speed is perfect for cruising around town, with the option to override for an even faster 28 mph. Be mindful of the higher speeds especially when hauling cargo.
- Customer Service: Lectric is known for its excellent customer service, both for responsiveness and helpfulness. On Facebook groups, owners overwhelmingly praise the Lectric team.
Cons:
- Motor Noise: The motor can be noisy at times, which some riders may find bothersome.
- Suspension Fork: The lack of a suspension fork makes the ride somewhat harsh on rough terrain though at this price point, it’s not something we’d expect.
- Kickstand: The kickstand is flimsy and could benefit from being more robust. On soft ground, it easily sinks and can make the bike unstable. We have also noticed that the bolt attaching the kickstand can come loose over time.
- Batteries: On the dual battery version each battery is not keyed the same. This means you get 4 keys in total, 2 for each battery. Charging the rear battery with a Thult seat installed is not possible. Plus, only one charger is included even on the dual battery version.
- Derailleur: The Tourney derailleur is basic though is sufficient for most riders.
