Rad Power Bikes Adds New Accessories | But Are they Worth It?

Rad Power Bikes has a good track record of offering quality accessories for their bikes. This includes both the accessories that they have manufactured and those offered by third parties. Their accessories section is a great place to quickly narrow in on the accessories you might want. Of course, if you’re looking for other recommendations you can always check out my ebike accessories page where I compile the most popular accessories that I see purchased. I also try to link to the Amazon equivalent product on my accessories list in case there are savings to be had compared to the Rad Power Bikes website.

Recently, Rad Power Bikes added custom colored grips and pedals to their website. To be honest I was a bit underwhelmed by the new offerings. The pedals are identical to the ones you’ll find stock on any Rad Power Bikes model. And the grips are similar to at least some of the Rad Power Bikes models (like my RadWagon). No problem there, both of these components are adequate for most people.

The head scratcher are the color offerings. If you want to customize your ebike, you want the pedals and grips to complement the colors of the rest of the bike. But three odd colors are offered: green, blue and orange-ish. While Rad is known for its iconic orange color, it doesn’t appear that the orange accessories will match perfectly, which defeats the purpose. It would be hard to even call them ‘Rad Colored’ as described on their website.

Even with the strange color choices, I considered purchasing them so I could these products with readers. The problem? Combined, including tax and shipping these would set me back $67. You can pick up some great pedals for $40 on Amazon like these RaceFace Chesters (in orange even!) or these orange pedals from RockBros.

No one on the Rad Owners Forum was excited about the new ‘Rad Colored Accessories’ so I imagine most people will skip this purchase. It’s unfortunate because many people who own Rad Power Bikes love custom accessories. They had the opportunity here to really offer something special and I think the new grips and pedals miss the mark. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rad Power Bikes and I can’t imagine a day when I won’t own one myself. I just expected more from the largest ebike seller in North America.
