And after taking the Lectric XP 3.0 for a spin we can confidently say that Lectric delivered on an improving an already great ebike. Even more impressive is that the starting price is still the same, just $999.

Lectric XP 3.0 Pricing: The Same

Amazingly Lectric has kept the prices consistent to maintain the affordability at the $1000 price point. And we give the Lectric team some credit here because the changes easily could have justified an incremental price increase.

Lectric 3.0 Review

The low price is made possible by the limited amount of models Lectric offers (3) and the vast quantities of ebikes they get manufactured. This of course has a flywheel effect as more people buy Lectric ebikes, they can continue to offer the same price to customers through economies of scale.

The Lectric XP 3.0 is available in a standard battery configuration with a 10.5 Ah battery for $999. For those wanting extra range, the larger 14Ah version can be purchased for $1,199.

What’s New on the Lectric XP 3.0

We’ll delve into the details of the Lectric XP 3.0 specs below but here are the major changes from the Lectric XP 2.0 compared to the Lectric XP 3.0.

  • More powerful controller
  • Updated freewheel
  • More torquey motor
  • Longer travel suspension
  • Passenger capabilities
  • Sporty saddle
  • Larger brake rotors
  • New softer ergonomic grips

Lectric 2.0 vs Lectric 3.0

Still Two Frame Designs

The Lectric XP 3.0 comes in two frame styles: high step and step-thru. We’re big proponents of the step-thru design because not only is it more accessible but in our opinion, it also looks better. Decals have been updated slightly though the color schemes are the same. The step-thru comes in black or white and the high step is offered in black.

Note that the Lectric XP 3.0 battery is specific to your chosen frame style. Thus, a battery on the Lectric XP 3.0 step thru version will not fit the high step frame. If you’re buying two Lectric ebikes you may want to consider purchasing two step-thrus or two high steps for this reason. While this is a folding ebike it’s important to note it is still heavy at 64 lbs due in part to the large battery and motor.

Passenger Friendly!

The new rear rack welded to the frame is a nice addition to the Lectric XP 3.0. This of course increases the capacity to an impressive 150 lbs (up from just 77 lbs). This change also allowed Lectric to add the Thule Yepp Maxi window. This allows the child seat to be attached with ease. No adapter plates, just buy the Thule Yepp Maxi and you’re good to go!

Other passenger accessories are available for purchase such as a rear cushion, footpegs and passenger bars.

Lectric XP 3.0 Electronics: Motor, Display and Battery

The Lectric 3.0 is still rated as a 500 watt motor but the ebike now peaks at 960 watts thanks to the 20 amp controller. Torque has also increased from 35nm to 55nm for faster acceleration.

Lectric offers the 3.0 in two different battery capacities: 10.5 Ah or 14Ah. For those that plan for longer rides the larger battery is a wise choice especially given the price. The batteries are housed inside the frame which is great for water resistance. On the other hand, if you decide to bring your battery inside to charge keep in mind that the frame has to be folded in order to remove the battery.

Centered in the handlebars you’ll find the LCD screen that Lectric uses on all of their ebikes. It’s a simple monochrome display that is easy to see in the daylight. There are also advanced settings that can be found in the Lectric manual – make any changes at your own risk.

On the right of the handlebars is a twist grip throttle which gives you full power from the motor with a simple twist. The top speed on the Lectric 3.0 with throttle only is 20 mph and the bike can be overridden to reach speeds up to 30 mph while pedaling. At that speed, it doesn’t fit into the classifications of an ebike in the US. Again make any changes at your own risk and be sure to follow all local laws and regulations.

Lectric 3.0 Components

One of the standout features of the Lectric XP 3.0 is the new 11-28 tooth rear freewheel. In simple terms, this allows the rider to provide human power at faster speeds thanks to the 11 cogs in the highest gear. This eliminates the problem commonly known as “ghost pedaling” where the rider provides little to no effort when traveling at speeds above 20mph.

The front suspension fork has a total of 50mm of travel, improving the comfort of the ebike. Adding to the comfort are the 20″ x 3″ tires that help soak up bumps especially at lower pressure. The 3″ width is a nice happy medium between wider tires which have more rolling resistance and less stable skinnier tires.

On the handlebars is a 7-speed Shimano thumb shifter paired with an entry-level Shimano Tourney derailleur in the rear. View the full components list on Lectric’s website.

Lectric 3.0 Accessories

The Lectric 3.0 comes outfitted well: paint matched metal fenders, integrated lights front and rear as well as the rear rack. Front and rear racks are also available for purchase. Lectric went the extra mile and created new accessories with the launch of the 3.0 including delivery bags, and more. Lectric XP 3.0 Shipping and Support

One of the unique features of all Lectric ebikes is that they are all folding ebikes. Not only is this great for storage and transport but it’s also very convenient for shipping. The bikes ship folded and nearly fully assembled. While you might want to have a bike shop check over your bike for safety purposes it makes getting on and riding that much easier. When folded, the Lectric XP 3.0 measures 37″L x 18″W x 28″H.

Lectric also has US based support and have a track record of providing great customer support. All bikes come with a 1-year warranty.

Our Take

Lectric is known for taking its customers’ feedback into consideration. With the 3.0 they did just that. It’s objectively a better electric bike with no change to the price. A win for riders in our books. We anticipate the Lectric XP 3.0 being just as big of a hit as the previous generation.
